Mesačná jaskyňa je označovaná za najväčšiu záhadu Slovenska.
Príbeh Mesačnej šachty je jednou zo slávnych slovenských záhad. Aj keď existencia akejsi tajomnej podzemnej jaskyne nikdy nebola potvrdená, hoci sa o lokalizáciu pokúšali už mnohí, dávne tajomstvo má byť ukryté podľa dochovaných príbehov hlboko v tatranských lesoch.
Legenda o mesačnej šachte sa dostala do povedomia Čechov a Slovákov po krátko skončení 2. svetovej vojny, kedy sa objavilo svedectvo povstaleckého kapitána Antonína Horáka.
